Guwahati: In the first phase of elections in Assam in five Lok Sabha seats, around 45.12 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 1 p.m. on Friday.
Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency recorded the highest voter turnout of 47.73 per cent.

This was followed by Sonitpur with 45.25 per cent, Lakhimpur (44.33 per cent) Kaziranga (44.32 per cent) and Dibrugarh (44.02 per cent).
The polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 5 pm.
A total of 86,47,869 voters will decide the fate of 35 candidates in these five seats. Most of the candidates exercised their franchise within the first two hours of polling.

In an attempt to finish the voting procedures early, the women were seen queuing up before polling stations from 5 am and most of them said they wanted to cast their vote early so that they could return home and continue with their daily chores.
