BJP’s Pradan Baruah scores a hattrick from Lakhimpur seat.

North Lakhimpur: Incumbent Lakhimpur Member of Parliament (MP) Pradan Baruah retained his seat for a record third time by defeating his nearest rival Uday Sankar Hazarika of Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of 2,01,257 votes.

The BJP candidate Baruah, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Lakhimpur in 2016 (by-election) and 2019 set a winning hat-trick by securing 6,63,122 votes.

His nearest challenger Uday Sankar Hazarika received 4,61,865 votes.

The BJP candidate got 1,09,121 votes in 80 Jonai LAC while the Congress candidate got the highest 6,9066 votes in 75 Nowboicha LAC.

It may be mentioned that polls were held for the first time in the state following the delimitation of the LACs.

Dhiren Cachari of the Communist Party of India came a distant third in the contest in Lakhimpur with 19,631 votes.

A total of 16,921 votes were cast against NOTA in Lakhimpur in this election while 1,131 votes were rejected.

The winning BJP candidate got 71,182 votes in 74 No Ranganadi against 63,268 votes by the Congress.

Similarly, Baruah secured 62,014, 65,030,  67,017, 70,066, 73,053, 1,09,121, 78,254 and 63,570 votes respectively in 75 Nowboicha, 76 Lakhimpur, 77 Dhakuakhana, 78 Dhemaji, 79 Sisi Borgaon, 80 Jonai, 81 Sadiya and 82 Doom Dooma against 56,548, 49,713, 47,423, 45,332, 40,675, 51,526 and 35,169 votes respectively by the Congress candidate.

Responding to his third consecutive victory to the media, BJP’s Pradan Baruah said, “Feeling glad for the win but the victory is not according to our plans.”
