Noted author Arup Kumar Dutta, will be conferred the honoris causa (honorary degree) of D Litt by the University of Dibrugarh in recognition of his outstanding contributions on March 15.

Dutta is a renowned writer based in Guwahati who has over 30 books to his credit like Unicornis, Cha-Garam: The Tea Story, The Brahmaputra, The Roving Minstrel, Kaziranga Trails and the latest venture The Ahoms.

He has made remarkable contributions to the fields of literature, academics and public life through his invaluable works of creative and historical writings. He has also been chosen for the prestigious Padma Shri awards.

The decision of bestowing Dutta with the honorary degree of D Litt was taken in a meeting of the Executive Council of Dibrugarh University on October 27, 2017.

Eminent scientist and a former director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Prof P Balaram, will attend the convocation as the Chief Guest.
