Following the rise in the subversive activities and constant movement of the banned militant outfit of the United Liberation Front of Assam across Tinsukia district, the security agencies have been put on alert in the entire vulnerable pockets like Digboi, Pengaree, Bordumsa, Kakopather, Doomdoma and Makum.  According to intelligence inputs available with NE NOW, the outfit is contemplating to carry out large scale subversive activities including kidnapping and extortion.

Inspector General of Police Eastern range Ram Prasad Meena who has been closely monitoring the situation in the district informed NE NOW that security had been tightened in the district.

According to sources, the outfit is desperate to commit large scale sabotage particularly in Digboi town to prove its existence.

On the other hand, security in Digboi has been beefed up to counter any anti -social activity of the outfit. As per sources, security has been intensified across the industrial town , particularly in the tea garden areas beside ensuring constant patrolling and operations around oil pipelines, railway tracks and busy places. It may be mentioned here that the Hindi speaking people are also one of the soft targets of the Ulfa as usual. Organizations including the VDPs, Digboi Nagarik Committee, women cell etc were sensitized on Monday during a formal emergency meeting to help realising the desired end with combined efforts.

The outfit has been observing November 28 as Protest Day ever since ULFA was declared as a banned outfit by the Government of Assam.
