Red Horns Division of Army conducts marathon to promote spirit of Nationalism

Red Horns Division of the Indian Army organized a mini marathon on Sunday to promote the spirit of unity and nationalism, on the lead up to Republic Day. The mini marathon was named Rashtriya Ekta Mini Marathon.

People from different walks of life and age group participated in the marathon.

1,130 men, 368 women, 1,112 students and 70 senior citizens took part in the event. The mini marathon was flagged off at Nehru Stadium, went along the stretch of GS Road till Ganeshguri Flyover and then back to Nehru Stadium again.

Major General Arun Kumar Verma, GOC 51 Sub Area, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Govt of Assam, Pabitra Khaund, Joint Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Ranuj Borkotoky and PVSLN Murthy, Chief General Manager North-East Circle, State Bank of India jointly flagged off the marathon.

The run was categorized into four categories; Men (16-50 years) 10 kms, Women (16-50 years) 5 kms, Students (8-15 years) 4 kms and the seniors above 50 years of age were required to run for 2 kms.

Eminent sports personalities of international repute were also graced the occasion with their presence. Most prominent among them were, Bhogeshwar Baruah and Jayant Talukdar.

Medals and certificates were presented to each of the participants. Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the first three achievers in all the four categories.
