Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek has warned of procedural action against doctors unwilling to serve in rural areas.

Poor healthcare facilities issue in rural areas of Meghalaya was taken up on several occasions in the State Assembly and concern was also expressed over non-availability of doctors in rural areas.

Stating that such complaints have not been brought to his notice, Hek stated every doctor has to serve at any place as needed by the Government.

Stressing that healthcare facilities have to reach all, the Health Minister said, “We have to reach the unreached and as an association, the MMSA has to provide more service in the rural areas,”, The Assam Tribune reports.

The Health Department is working on a lot of developmental programmes through doctors, nurses and paramedical staff, he added. Community Health Centres and Public Health Centres are being upgraded to wellness centres.
