The total number of COVID19 active cases in Meghalaya increased to 580 on Tuesday with detection of more positive cases.
This news has been shared by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma in a tweet on the latest update of the state’s COVID19 status.
On Monday, the total number of active cases in Meghalaya was 547 when the chief minister tweeted at 8.41 pm.
According to the latest update, shared by chief minister Sangma, of the total active cases, 286 are personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and other armed forces.
Apart from the BSF and other armed forces’ personnel, the number of other infected patients is 294.
A total of 194 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have recovered from the disease in Meghalaya, the chief minister mentioned in his tweet.
The dease has so far claimed the lives of 5 persons including an infant from Arunachal Pradesh.
meanwhile, a 47-year-old woman, who tested positive for COVID19, died at NEIGRIHMS on Tuesday.
However, she died of kidney ailment and not due to COVID19 infection, said Meghalaya director of health services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr on Tuesday.
Dr. Warr said the patient, the wife of a BSF jawan, was suffering from chronic renal failure and was under dialysis.
The patient could not come for dialysis treatment to NEIGRIHMS due to spike of COVID19 cases in BSF camp, Umpling, Dr. Warr said.
The patient tested positive only after she was admitted to NEIGRIHMS, Dr Warr added.
“The patient was asymptomatic even though she was positive. The patient died of kidney ailment and so it will not be counted as COVID19 death,” Dr. Warr said.
