Manipur has reported 160 new cases of COVID19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 7,362.

In the last 24 hours, 135 persons including 79 males and 56 females from the general population and 25 from the central armed police forces (CAPFs) were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases in Manipur.

The infected persons are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Kakching, Ukhrul and Senapati, an official statement said.

Out of the general population, three persons are returnees from other states while the rest 132 are locals without any significant travel history.

They are being shifted to COVID care facilities, it said.

Meanwhile, 64 persons were discharged from eight COVID care facilities in the last 24 hours.

“The cumulative number of positive cases is 7,362. The cumulative number of discharged cases now stands at 5,548. The number of active cases is 1,774. The recovery rate is 75.35 per cent,” the statement added.

The COVID19 death toll in Manipur has reached 40 with one more person succumbing to the disease.

Manipur reported its first death due to COVID19 on July 29 while the first COVID19 positive case was reported on March 24.

In order to strengthen the surveillance, testing and also for implementation of home isolation for the asymptomatic positive cases in Imphal West and Imphal East (districts), measures have been taken by identifying 7 doctors from Imphal West and 5 doctors along with 3 supporting staffs from Imphal East, it said.
