Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday felicitated Dr S Parkinson Singh, the neuro-surgeon from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal West district of Manipur, for successfully performing the first open head surgery at JNIMS after a gap of 10 years. The rare feat achieved by a Manipur doctor is indead a proud moment for the State.
The felicitation ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s secretariat on Friday.

Biren Singh congratulated Dr S. Parkinson Singh and the whole team of JNIMS for performing the open head surgery for the first time after the erstwhile JN Hospital became JNIMS in the last 10 years.
Encouraging the neuro-surgeon and the team, the Chief Minister also handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Dr S Parkinson for successfully performing the surgery.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Parkinson Singh said Ningombam Anandi Devi, aged 86 years, a resident of Khongman Zone-V was admitted at JNIMS and diagnosed with left sided sub-acute chronic subdural haemorrhage.

The surgery of Burr Hole and evacuation of haemotome under local anaesthesia was performed, he added.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, L Jayantakumar Singh, director, health services, Dr K Rajo, director, JNIMS Prof Th Bhimo Singh, medical superintendent of JNIMS, Prof L Ranabir Singh, head of department and additional medical superintendent Prof N Jitendra, associate professor of anaesthesia Dr S. Thoibahenba were present among others during the felicitation function.
Dr S Parkinson is an alumnus of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
He did his Master of Surgeryat Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and MCh at AIIMS, New Delhi.
