run for cancer awareness

A ‘run for cancer awareness’ will be organized on February 17 as part of the first year anniversary celebrations of Cancer Hospital Gauhati Medical College.

The run will start at 6:30 am from the Cancer Hospital campus to Ulubari and back.

“We want to spread the message among people that cancer is curable. The awareness among people regarding cancer is very low. The majority of patients who come for treatment here are mostly at advanced stages of cancer when it becomes difficult for them to recover,” Superintendent in-charge-of Cancer Hospital, Prof K Bhuyan told Northeast Now.

Padma Bhushan Dr PB Desai will be present as Guest of Honour on Saturday. He will deliver the first anniversary oration on the topic ‘The Dazzling Brilliance of Science – Then, Now and Into the Future.’

Dr Desai is the Former Director of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Minister, Health and Family Welfare will also grace the event as the Chief Guest.

As part of the two-day event on the occasion of the first anniversary, a continuous medical education programme (CME) will also be organized for medical practitioners and students on February 16.

There will be scientific discussions held on oncology by national level faculty like Dr Rajesh Mistry, Dr Tapan Saikia, Dr Siddhartha Laskar, Dr Ravi Kannan and Dr Mandar Nadkarni.
