The Sikh community of Guwahati launched Khalsa Blood Donors group on March 23, to promote voluntary blood donations in the state.
The group officially started donating blood on Tuesday, when Jaswinder Singh 41 years old and his young 18 year old son Gurminder Singh the father son duo became the first donors from the group to donate blood to two patients who urgently needed blood.
Capt PP Singh, Chief Coordinator of Khalsa Blood Donors informed that though they had decided to start donations from Baisakhi but on Tuesday morning getting two requests for Blood donation made them change their plans.
Ajoy Hazarika an advocate by profession whose father Naba Kumar Hazarika is undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospital Unit international hospital was pleased to get a quick response and has himself decided to become an active member of Khalsa Blood Donors and enrol more volunteers for blood donation too.
Rupak Das son of patient Arati Das who received the blood this morning, also expressed his willingness to join immediately and called upon others to help people.
