The health condition of RTI activist and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi, who has tested COVID19 positive, is “stable”, said GMCH superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma on Sunday.
Gogoi, who was lodged in Guwahati Central Jail, is currently undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) after he tested positive for COVID19 on Saturday.
He tested positive for the virus, just two days after his samples were found negative for COVID19.

“The condition of Akhil Gogoi is not very complicated. He is stable now. In the morning, he complained of some pain in the knee and head,” said Dr Sarma.
The GMCH superintendent informed that the oxygen level of Gogoi is 99 per cent while his heartbeat rate is 79 per minute.
Besides, the superintendent told the media that Gogoi’s body temperature remains at 97.6 degree Celsius.
Dr Sama said the board of doctors has informed him that no situation arises to get Gogoi admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU.)
“There are now no symptoms of Coronavirus in him and he is an asymptomatic patient,” Dr Sarma added.
The board of doctors, formed in GMCH, headed by the ex-principal of the hospital, Dr Bhabani Prasad Chakraborty, has GMCH doctors Dr Basanta Hazarika, Dr Sangit Dutta, Health City hospital’s Dr Brajen Lahkar and Apollo Hospitals’ Dr Neelam Khaund.
Meanwhile, KMSS has demanded that Gogoi’s health status be updated on daily basis.
A KMSS delegation met the GMCH superintendent on Sunday and took stock of the organisation leaders’ health conditions.
KMSS leader Gogoi has been in jail for the last 8 months.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has brought several charges against him, including under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Two of his close associates and KMSS leaders, Bitu Sonowal and Dharjya Konwar were found to be positive on July 8 and taken to a COVID19 facility in Guwahati.
