Apprehension are looming large leading to abuse and violence against these visitors by a section of local people in some parts of Darrang.

Talking to Northeast Now on Tuesday, Dr Jadumani Kataki, sub divisional medical and health officer (SDM&HO) in charge of the district Surveillance officer while expressing concern over this issue has appealed to the public to stop reacting with any kind of violence and abuse on the people arriving  at the locality from outside the State.

“People should stop accepting some fake social media posts leading to apprehension of panic and showing abusive and violent behaviours towards their nearby visitors,” Dr Kataki observed.

He further confirmed any suspected case of infection as all persons with 14 days travel history are either being isolated in health institution or in homes.

Three such patients isolated in Mangaldai Civil Hospital and Jonaram Chowka Model Hospital in the last two days are asymptomatic.

According to health department sources, the process of stamping of the persons with recent travel history who have already been quarantined has started since Monday as with the entry of maximum 282 new cases the total number of home quarantine cases in the district has gone upto 527 till Monday evening.

Similarly, the department so far has recorded altogether 558 cases of health screening.

Health department sources has claimed that they are being informed from the State in advance regarding every  person entering the district from outside the State by travelling either by train or flight.

So there is hardly any scope of any traveler being entering into the district unmarked.

Meanwhile, the district which is still applying the old conventional method of health screening in the absence of new technology based equipments the district health department  has placed an urgent demand of fourteen nos of thermal scanning machine each costing around rupees five thousand.

“We have already placed a demand for 14 thermal scanning machine and we are expecting it to get soon. Moreover, demand for 50 numbers of medical gowns also called PPE for the personal protection of the medical practitioners of the district has also been placed,” said a health official on condition of anonymity.
