Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia on Thursday urged upon party leaders and workers to engage themselves to combat COVID-19 pandemic and prevention of possible starvation in a mission mode.
Parliamentarian Saikia in presence of the two BJP MLAs of the district Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kr Saikia was interacting with media following review meeting with the party’s local senior leaders about the situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic at his residence on Thursday afternoon.
Saikia informed that with the voluntary contribution from altogether 1700 members, the party has managed to reach out to nearly 40,000 families of the district from the economically weaker section of the society.
Besides the aids from collective donations from around 850 party workers an amount of Rs 11 lakh has been deposited to the PM Cares Fund while another amount of Rs 17 lakh to the Assam Aarogya Nidhi.
“Our government and party workers are functioning like a mission against the spread of the deadly COVID-19 and also ensuring that not a single person has to die of starvation,” Saikia reiterated.
He also claimed that special benefits of various centrally sponsored welfare schemes like PM Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, NFSA, Ujala etc have reached to 99 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries.
The young parliamentarian offered thanks and gratitude to all concern including personnel from the health, sanitation, police and media for showing sacrifice and courage in keeping the district Darrang and Udalguri completely free from novel coronavirus infection.
Saikia handed over one N95 face masks and a hand sanitizer bottle each to the media persons present.
