Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday stated that both the Central government and the Dental Council of India (DCI) have approved the State government’s proposal to set up two dental colleges in Assam.
Informing this, State Health Minister while addressing a press conference here on Monday said, “The new dental colleges in Assam will be set up in Dibrugarh and Silchar.”
Informing that in the new dental colleges coming up in Assam, 50 candidates each will be able to take admissions for pursuing BDS Course each in both the colleges for the academic session 2018-19, he said, “This shall fulfil the need of specialist dentists.”
On his Twitter handle, the Health Minister also stated, “Within a month of launch of our flagship scheme of cashless treatment – Atal Amrit Abhiyan – 1120 patients benefitted – 22 burn, 123 Cardio, 365 Kidney, 51 Neuro, 2 Neonatology & 557 Cancer cases – amounting to support worth Re 3.4 cr in hospitals within & outside Assam.” He termed it as a “Huge success”.
While talking to media persons, the Health Minister said, 19 cancer hospitals across the State, including one in Guwahati, would be established.

He informed that the Assam government has already identified sites for 13 of the 19 proposed cancer hospitals.
Sarma stated, “The Assam Cancer Care Foundation, which has been formed by the Assam government will run the cancer hospitals in association with the Tata Trust.”
The Assam government on February 3, 2018 inked a pact with the Tata Group for implementing a comprehensive cancer care project in the State. The project would be rolled out with a cost of Rs 2000 crore where Tata Group would invest a total of Rs 802 crore.
