A five-day Shirui Summer Camp 2018 was held at Somsai, near Manipur’s Ukhrul town where the headquarters of 10 sector Assam Rifles is stationed.
The summer camp was organized under the aegis of Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam from June 6-10, 2018.
A total of 111 students, 46 girls and 65 boys from eight schools of headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) participated in the camp held in Ukhrul District.
The Shirui Summer Camp is being organized annually by the Somsai Battalion as a fun and frolic oriented break for the students, stated the public relations officer (PRO) of Assam Rifles(South) in a press release here.
The students came from varied backgrounds and cultures and the camp provided them an invaluable opportunity to socialize with each other, understand and assimilate the uniqueness of each culture.
Together they participated in a variety of entertaining competitions and forged a strong bonding and camaraderie.
Trek to Shirui Peak in Ukhrul district where the popular state flower Shiuri grows and celebration of World Environment Day brought them closer to nature and generated a sense of responsibility in their impressionable minds towards preservation of our natural resources, it added.
Meanwhile in the view of upcoming ‘International Yoga Day’ which is scheduled to be held on June 21, an event was organized by Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles for the school students and teachers of Kharasom village, Ukhrul District, Manipur on Monday.
The participation of all the students and teaching staff from such a remote village indicated the awareness about benefits of yoga for the populace.
They performed various breathing exercises and asanas under the supervision of trained yoga instructor from the Assam Rifles.
The benefits of yoga in the holistic development of the physical, mental and spiritual well-being were also highlighted during the event.
It was further emphasized that yoga not only brings harmony between man and nature but also inculcates holistic approach to healthy lifestyle.
