Within 8 hours, Assam has registered one more COVID19 positive case on Thursday taking the total to 42.

The new positive case has been detected in Karimganj district of the Barak Valley.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said it is a case of secondary infection and the infected patient came in contact with a person who had visited Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz.

Informing about the new case, health minister Sarma tweeted: “Alert ~ One person from Karimganj, secondary contact of a #NizamuddinMarkaz attendee, has tested positive for #COVID19.”

“Total #COVID19 patients in Assam now stands at 42. (29 are discharged, 1 death, so active hospital cases 12.),” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, four persons tested positive for COVID19 in Bongaigaon district of the state.

Out of the total COVID19 confirmed cases registered in Assam so far, 29 have been discharged from various hospitals across the state.

Currently, there are 12 active cases in Assam.

The deadly virus has claimed one patient in the state.

Meanwhile health minister Sarma said following 3 cancer patients from Assam testing positive for COVID19 in Delhi, the state government has taken steps for conducting special screening of Assam’s stranded cancer patients in Assam.

Sarma tweeted: “After 3 of our cancer patients were found #COVID19 positive in Delhi, we took proactive steps of conducting special screening for Assam’s stranded cancer patients in Mumbai. The screening of 202 patients by a private lab shall allay apprehensions. We hope for best.”
