Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday visited the zonal screening centre set up
earlier this month at Kakodunga in Jorhat district to screen returnees from outside the state.
The people returning to six upper Assam districts will be screened at the zonal screening centre set up at Kakodunga near Jorhat-Golaghat border.
A district administration official informed that the chief minister took stock of the works carried out at the centre from senior officials of the district administration, health department, police and from employees posted at the centre.
Sonowal also visited the quarantine centre set up at the Kaziranga University campus, not far from the screening centre, the district administration official stated.
Speaking to media persons at the zonal screening centre, Sonowal said the state government has set up five regional screening centres across the state to screen returnees and Jorhat was one of them.
He said the doctors, nurses, supporting staff, cleaning staff, ASHA workers, ambulance drivers and the police personnel are doing a commendable job.
The chief minister thanked other departments like disaster management authority, voluntary organizations and public for extending cooperation to carry out their job round the clock at this hour of crisis in a smooth manner.
Sonowal said the government is setting up quarantine centres constituency-wise, panchayat-wise and also block level and for that purpose the legislators and parliamentarians were providing necessary support.
The chief minister said the government has made several relaxations to let economic activities be carried out by maintaining all safety measures to prevent outbreak of COVID19.
The official said the CM, who was accompanied by Tingkhong MLA Bimal Borah, praised the work done by the all concerned departments in running the screening and quarantine centres.
Since May 6 till date, altogether 2,211 people, who arrived here from outside Assam, have been screened at the zonal screening centre of Jorhat, as per information provided by the Jorhat deputy commissioner.
