The last rites of former three-time Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi will be performed at Nabagraha Cremation Ground in Guwahati on Thursday.
Thousands of people on Wednesday paid tributes to the former chief minister at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra where Gogoi’s mortal remains have been kept since Tuesday evening.
Gogoi passed away at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on Monday at 5.34 pm due to post-Covid19 complications.
His body was taken out from GMCH at 9.40 am on Tuesday.
The mortal remains of former chief minister Gogoi will be taken from Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra to Nabagraha Cremation Ground at 9 am on Thursday.
Before Nabagraha Cremation Ground, Gogoi’s mortal remains will be taken to the church at Rukmini Gaon, a namghar at Zoo Road, Burha Jame Masjid at Ambari, Sukreswar Temple and Ugratara Temple.

The cremation ground has been readied for performing the last rites of the former chief minister.
The entire cremation ground area has been cleaned.
The former chief minister will be cremated with full state honours.
He will be cremated by following Tai-Ahom and Hindu traditional rituals.

All arrangements have been made so that government officials, leaders of various organizations and well-wishers may remain present during the time of his cremation.
The district administration has reserved 100 seats to accommodate people from Titabor Assembly constituency, which was represented by Gogoi.
The Nabagraha Cremation Ground committee has engaged four people for the cremation of former chief minister Gogoi.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inspected the Nabagraha Cremation Ground.
The minister was accompanied by the city police commissioner, the deputy commissioner of Kamrup Metro and several other top officials.
The administration has estimated that at least 1,000 people would be able to gather during the cremation of the former Assam chief minister.
