Guwahati: A Guwahati Police team detained three individuals suspected of planting bombs across the city on Independence Day across Assam.

The detainees, from Sivasagar and Moranhat, were identified during the probe into the recovery of explosives at four locations in Guwahati.

The banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) had claimed responsibility for the bombs.

The police are currently interrogating the suspects as part of the ongoing investigation, a source said.

While the bombs planted across the state had caused widespread panic, ULFA-I had claimed that technical issues prevented the bombs from exploding.

The outfit, later revealed the locations of 25 explosives, prompting a massive search operation by police.

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh announced that two cases related to the incident would be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The state police have registered 10 cases linked to the August 15 incident.
