Guwahati: In the ongoing REC National Open Talent Hunt Boxing Championship organised by the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) in collaboration with the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), eight sub-junior (girls) boxers from Assam have entered the finals.
Additionally, in the boys’ category, Assam’s only boxer Abhigyan Bora competing in the 33 kg weight category, has qualified for the gold medal match.

The tournament is being held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional centre’s indoor stadium in Guwahati, Assam. The finals will take place on Monday.

In Sunday’s sub-junior semifinals, Assam’s Riddhika Bhandari and Pranamika Bora (33 kg), Spaddha Dikshita Parashar (35 kg), Shini Hazarika (43 kg), Konkona (52 kg), Trisha Pegu (55 kg), and Neha and Sangita Sonowal (58 kg) won their respective bouts and entered the finals.

On the other hand, in the semifinals, Assam’s Devitara Pegu (31 kg), Pranamika Bora (33 kg), Nayanmoni Dale and Chayanika Dale (35 kg), Nayanmoni (40 kg), Asmita Roy and Devika Gohain (43 kg), Anushka Gogoi (46 kg), Rimpi Pegu (49 kg), Kripanjali Basumatary (55 kg), Ganati Mushahari (58 kg), and Barbie Chetia (61 kg) were defeated but managed to secure bronze medals.

Moreover, in the sub-junior boys’ 43 kg category, Lakshyajit Sutiya, in the 61 kg category, Venish Mushahari, and in the 70 kg category, Ashish Mukhia and Abhiyan Boro, were also defeated in the semifinals, but they ended their campaigns with bronze medals.
In the junior category, eight Assam boxers have entered the semifinals ensuring medals.
Earlier, in the elite and youth categories, Assam secured a total of 16 medals, including two gold, six silver and eight bronze.
