Guwahati: The excise department in Guwahati, Assam foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle liquor into Meghalaya, officials said on Sunday.
As per officials, the Kamrup Metropolitan Excise Department acting on a tip, intercepted a pickup truck near the Jorabat area in Guwahati.
On Searching the truck, the officials found 135 cartons of foreign liquor illegally being transported to Meghalaya.
According to the officials, the liquor consignment had no valid documents and was seized.
Officials said the driver of the vehicle was also apprehended and prosecuted.
An investigation has been initiated in connection with the seizure.
