Assam: Inmate dies under ‘mysterious’ circumstances in Guwahati Central Jail

Guwahati: On Tuesday a 33-year-old jail inmate reportedly died inside the Guwahati Central Jail in Kamrup (M), Assam.

The 33-year-old inmate identified as Samar Biswash was suspected to have died by suicide initially.

According to reports, the inmate fell ill in his cell, leading to his subsequent transfer to the jail’s infirmary.

Despite immediate medical attention, his health rapidly deteriorated, and he was rushed to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

The doctors at GMCH pronounced him dead upon arrival. The cause of his sudden illness and subsequent demise remains unknown.

Samar Biswash had been incarcerated at Guwahati Central Jail after being arrested in connection with a case filed by Dispur police.

The details of the case have not been disclosed at this time. 

While the exact reason behind the death is not known, family members of the deceased have raised concerns.
