Guwahati: At least four suspected cross-border vehicle lifters were arrested in Guwahati, Assam on Friday night.
They were arrested in a pursuit during which at least nine policemen of the Hatigaon Police Station in Guwahati were injured.

The lifters are suspected to be cross-border car traffickers.
Reports stated that the incident took place near the Khanka Idgah road in Guwahati.

The officials injured during the pursuit were identified as Nabur Ali, Krishna Sarathi Gogoi, Akhter Ali, Rausan Ali, Sushi Kalita, Dipankor Das, Kuldip Mazumder, Dhurbajyoti Sarmah and Nayak Rangkhal.
Police said that the suspected traffickers were a part of a five-member gang who were in Guwahati to pick up some stolen cars.
The police did not exactly provide details about the cars but stated that the gang was involved in trafficking these stolen vehicles to Bangladesh.
The police had inputs about the gang and based on the input, they launched an operation.

The gang was reportedly finalizing a deal for the stolen vehicles near the Khanka area when the police arrived.
A brawl took place between the police and the alleged gang.
It was then that the policemen were injured. Two vehicles, one belonging to the police were also vandalised during the incident.
However, the police managed to apprehend four out of the five suspects.
The suspects were identified as Dhan Jyoti Doloi and Hirak Jyoti from the Sonapur area on the outskirts of Guwahati, Samiran Das from Goalpara, and Anowar from the 13th Mile area on the Assam-Meghalaya border.
The police have begun an investigation into the alleged trafficking activities of the suspects while a search for the fifth person is still on.
