Guwahati: At least five individuals were apprehended and 35 cattle rescued in a joint operation by authorities from the Jorabat area in Guwahati, Assam on Monday.
A police source said that acting on specific intelligence, officials intercepted two vehicles suspected of transporting smuggled cattle.

Around 5 am, an XUV 300 with two men, Ashraful Hoque and Abdul Kadir Zilani, was stopped, the source said.

They confessed to escorting another vehicle carrying cattle from Nagaon to Meghalaya via Jorabat.

Following their lead, police intercepted the cattle-laden vehicle near Jorabat Link Road.
Three individuals, driver Sahidul Rahman and helpers Latiful Hoque and Ariful Islam, were found inside.

Upon search, 35 live cattle were discovered.
While questioning, the three revealed transporting the cattle based on Zilani’s instructions, who lacked any valid authorization as well as no documentation for the cattle.
All five individuals were arrested and both vehicles were seized.
Further investigation is being carried out in connection with the seizure.
