Around 40 entrepreneurs of Assam will receive training on value addition of perishable food products during a skill development programme that began in Guwahati on Monday.
The training programme is being conducted by the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) at the Institute of Cooperative Management in Guwahati.
The five –day programme focuses on value addition on perishable food items like fruits, vegetables and spices.
A team of senior scientists from CSIR-CFTRI will equip young entrepreneurs and exporters of Assam with theoretical and practical technical knowledge during different sessions.
The trainees will be taken to industries in the vicinity so that they can witness the various processes that go into value addition of food products.
Food processing and value addition are vital for the promotion of processed food products from the northeastern region as exports of perishables is a challenge.
