Guwahati: With the annual Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple drawing closer, preparations for the massive spiritual gathering are now underway in Guwahati. Scheduled to commence on the night of June 22 and conclude at dawn on June 26, the four-day festival marks an important occasion in the assamese month of Ahaar.
Temple authorities and members of the Doloi community have begun coordinating with the district administration to put in place arrangements related to security, crowd regulation and other essential services, as lakhs of pilgrims, sadhus and devotees from across the country are expected to attend the event.
Ahead of this yearโs Ambubachi Mela, authorities have planned major measures to streamline pilgrim movement and reduce overcrowding around Kamakhya Temple. In addition to the traditional Nursery route, devotees will now be able to access the shrine through a newly prepared road from the Pandu side, providing an alternate entry point for visitors.
The influx of sadhus has already begun at Kamakhya Dham, with many sadhus reaching the temple complex weeks before the commencement of the festival. Officials expect the number of pilgrims to rise sharply as the event approaches.
Security arrangements are also being expanded, with plans to install modern CCTV surveillance systems throughout the temple premises to monitor the large gathering.
Held annually atop the Nilachal Hills, the Ambubachi Mela is regarded as one of the biggest spiritual congregations in the Northeast and is widely known as the โMahakumbh of the East,โ attracting devotees from across India to the revered shrine of Goddess Kamakhya.
