Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi has urged ophthalmological fraternity to take up community eye care service as priority to serve the society at large.

“It becomes a moral responsibility for every individual ophthalmologist and the body of ophthalmologists to take up community eye care service as their priority to serve the society at large,” Mukhi said.

The Governor said this while speaking at a conference held on the occasion of Golden Jubilee ceremony of the Ophthalmological Society of Assam in a city hotel.

Prof Mukhi said, ‘Vision For All’ is a mission globally pursued through various programmes to prevent blindness.

“In our country too, programmes  like ‘Vision 2020’ and ‘National Programme  for Control of Blindness’ are geared up with full vigour. At this juncture, it becomes a moral responsibility for every individual ophthalmologist and the body of ophthalmologists to take up community eye care service as their priority,” he said.

The Governor also expressed pleasure to note that the Ophthalmological Society of Assam has taken up community service by conducting mega eye camps in rural and remote areas.

He also stressed on regular public awareness programme which is very important to make people aware of eye health and its disorders.

The Governor further urged upon the Ophthalmological Society of Assam to take a pledge to ensure vision for all and appealed to the organizer to continue its good work and be an instrument to carry forward the Ophthalmological care in the right spirit.

The Golden jubilee conference was also attended by the President of Ophthalmological Society of Assam Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee, Chairperson of the Organizing committee Golden Jubilee conference Prof Deepali Deka along with a host of other dignitaries.
