Manipur’s Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar, has assured action against people who hunt and trap migratory birds.

Speaking to the media at his office chamber in the New Secretariat The Forest and Environment Minister said “My department is keeping ‘strict vigil to safeguard the Loktak Lake’ including its wildlife. He said that the department will take stern action against those found hunting and trapping migratory birds.

The Minister said that his department’s officials were committed to working for development and ‘saving the largest freshwater lake of the Northeast India’. He appealed to the people living near the periphery of the Loktak Lake, to encourage and support the staff of the department.

He  assured about the Government’s commitment to the cause at the release of the 2018 calendar of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA).The calendar depicts developmental projects that were undertaken during the previous year.
