Nature seems to have struck its whip on the people of Bokajan area in East Karbi Anglong as a fierce storm swept over the area and its suburbs creating panic among the residents.
The storm that struck the region on Wednesday afternoon, took its heavy toll on countless houses besides uprooting trees and electric poles in the region.

The storm that was followed by a heavy downpour thrashed power supply as branches snapped the overhead electric wires, resulting in a complete power failure in the area. Many shops were overturned and several roofs were blow off in the trail of destruction caused by the storm.
Vehicular traffic over the National Highway 39 was also affected as over a dozen uprooted trees, electric poles fell over the highway disrupting the movement of vehicles for several hours following the nature’s fury.
It has been reported that the storm has caused damages in Bokajan town besides Khatkhati, Hatigarh, CCI Township, Sukhanjan among other areas. The entire area has plunged into darkness as power supply snapped. Sources in the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) said that it would at least take 24 hours to restore power in the affected areas referring to the gravity of damage caused by the storm.

Some other affected villages are Bormanthi, Maj Gaon, Sot Recho, Rintithe Rongmarjong, Surumanthi and Wophong Terang.
More than 200 houses were destroyed in the area. The people were seen staying in the open surrounded with their household belongings and furniture while rain was still drizzling.
Bokajan MLA, Dr Numal Momin has appealed for help through the WhatsApp group of the BJP IT Department.
In Diphu town also, there was heavy rain accompanied with wind. In some areas of Diphu, power was disrupted but the APDCL has been working to restore it. There was no report of any injuries.
