World sparrow day

On the occasion of World Sparrow Day 2018, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) along with an NGO, Help Earth, organized an awareness programme to save house sparrows, at Shradhanjali Kanan in Guwahati.

At the event, several bird boxes were installed in the park for sparrows and around 700 bird boxes were distributed free of cost to the people gathered there to spread awareness about house sparrows and their importance in the eco-system, informed an organizer.

GMDA Chairman M Angamuthu who was present at the occasion said that Northeast is a unique place with a rich biodiversity. Guwahati also has a huge variety of flora and fauna unlike other big cities in India.

Angamuthu said that it is the responsibility of the people of the city to protect the unique urban bio-diversity of Guwahati.

This initiative is to create awareness and to get public support for saving house sparrows.
