The Jhalukpara Durga Puja has stepped into its 67th year with the organisers leaving no stone unturned to make it one of the major attractions in the entire Dibrugarh town.

The pandal pulls a huge crowd every year with its unique decoration, and this year too, the organisers and artisans alike are burning the midnight oil in giving the final touches as the countdown to Durga Puja has begun.

The entire pandal is decorated with eco-friendly materials like coconut bark, date palm bark, shyam grass, wheat cis, fodder bark, maize skin, papaya tree bark and pampas grass, among others.

Secretary of Jhalukpara Durga Puja committee Binay Garodia said this year’s theme is based on the environment and all materials used in decoration of the pandal are eco-friendly.

“This year, our theme is based on the environment and we have used all eco-friendly materials to decorate the pandal. Our pandal has been decorated mostly with tree parts,” he said.

Garodia said the puja committee is optimistic about the puja revellers appreciating the theme.

“We are hopeful that people will like our theme. Recently, we witnessed the sudden change in weather with the maximum temperature touching 40 degrees Celsius in Dibrugarh. It is due to the effects of global warming. To save the planet, we need to focus on planting more trees,” he added.
