Popular Assamese singer Neel Akash was allegedly manhandled on Thursday night by a group of unidentified miscreants at Mohanbari area in Dibrugarh district.
According to information Neel Akash went to one Jyotsna Saikia’s home at Mohanbari to attend a marriage party of her daughter.
Mohanbari is around 15 kilometres from Dibrugarh town.
Mohanbari police outpost in-charge Ajit Borah said the incident took place when he was on his way back home after attending the marriage party.
“Neel Akash was coming back after attending the marriage party. His car was parked around 100 meters away from Jyotsna Saikia’s home. When he was coming back to board the vehicle, a group of youths, who were in inebriated condition, suddenly hackled him,” Bora told NE Now.
A case (no 171/ 2017) was registered at Mohanbari police outpost in connection with the incident.
Bora said police are investigating into the incident.
A man identified as Kalia has been picked up for questioning, he said.
Born and brought up in Tinsukia, singer Neel Akash, has carved himself a niche in the Assamese music world.
His melodious song Macholoi goisilu has struck a chord of many. He has been working with many renowned music directors & composers as a playback singer.
In 2016, he released his first solo album—Bihuan.
