The Apna Dal MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, Anupriya Patel has demanded a ban on the web series, ‘Mirzapur 2’ alleging that it was spreading ethnic disharmony among the people.
According to the Lok Sabha MP, the web series has maligned the image of Mirzapur by portraying it as a “violent” area.
The web series is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and Mihir Desai.
The cast members include Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chadha, Anjum Sharma, Vijay Varma, Amit Sial, Isha Talwar and Priyanshu Painyuli.
It was recently released on Amazon Prime.
According to a review of the web series the principle that the Mirzapur 2 characters follow is simple – You kill one of mine, I will kill one of yours.
The cycle of violence in it is unending. It is a violent tale of feuds in families, politics and elections.
Parliamentarian Patel tweeted: “Under the leadership of honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and honourable chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Mirzapur is in the path of development. It is a centre of harmony. The web series, ‘Mirzapur’ is maligning the region’s image by calling it as violent.”
She said the matter must be investigated and strict action taken against those responsible for sullying the image of the area.
