Imphal: The short film The Nightmare of Bembi, directed and produced by Tenzing Pukhrambam, has been honoured with the Best Psychological Drama award at the Indian Panorama International Film Festival 2025โ€“26.

The 23-minute film, marking Tenzing’s directorial debut, is recognized as a sensitive portrayal of the conflictโ€™s impact on children and families, often depicting the warโ€™s enduring aftermath.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh lauded the achievement, stating, โ€œIt is a matter of pride that this film presents a narrative marked by depth, sensitivity, and memorable imagery.โ€ He added that the achievement highlights the creative excellence and storytelling strength of Manipur’s film fraternity. On his X (formerly Twitter) post, Y. Khemchand wrote, โ€œI extend my heartfelt appreciation and commendation to the entire team for bringing laurels to the state and elevating Manipuri cinema to the global stage.โ€

Starring Pretty Laishram, Rantan Mayanglambam, Ragini, Valentina Sagapam, Amit Kshetrimayum, Zuleykq Naorem, and Priyalakhshmi Langpoklakpam, the film continues to garner international recognition.

The film has received several accolades, including the Jakarta Independent Cine Awards 2026, where it won Best Debut Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Music.

At the Kodaikanal International Film Festival in Tamil Nadu, it was awarded Best Debut Short Film, while the Athvikvaruni International Film Festival, also in Tamil Nadu, honoured it with a Special Jury Award for Best Debut Short Film.

Additionally, the film won the Best Short Film award at the Oceaniek Short Films Awards 2026 in Chandigarh.

The film is also scheduled for screening at the Nagpur Film Festival 2026, organised by Nagpur University, and has been officially selected for additional festivals worldwide.
