The Raghu Dixit Project, a multilingual contemporary folk band who mesmerized audiences during the Rongali Utsav 2018, has a strong desire to come back to the northeast. The Rongali Festival was held at Kalakhetra.
The frontman Raghu Dixit declares it is because of the ‘amazing love’ that they received from the region. He also spoke of other bands who love playing here due to its strong musical affiliations and great response they get from music lovers.
The band which is based in Bengaluru performs all over the globe in Kannada and Hindi and has an ever-growing fan-base.
Soon after the band’s performance, Dixit said “The Northeast Indians are a music and art loving crowd. Their enthusiasm is unmatched in the country. Due to the amazing love they get from the crowd, every band craves to play in the northeast.”
“Hopefully, in the future the concerts will be organized in a more professional way,” he added.
Raghu Dixit talked about his experience here on Sunday. Dixit exclaimed, “The sound-checks were delayed so everyone’s set list was cut down. It was like a ‘khichdi’.”
“I feel sad to come all the way and play only half the songs on the set, we were supposed to play for 90 minutes but it was reduced to 45 minutes so we had to cut down on seven or more songs.”
The show which was supposed to start at 5pm began at 6.30 pm. So, Instead of the show concluding at 10 pm it went on almost till midnight.
Initially the crowd, consisting mostly of locals, refused to sing along with the band, which began with a few Kannada hits. But Dixit insistent on teaching them a few Kannada lines, won over the crowd with their songs like ‘Jag Changa’, ‘Rain Song’ and ‘Hey Bhagwan’.
The Lungi-clad singer who wears bells (ghungroos) on his feet during performances is positive they would come back to the northeast to play of the people again.
“We had a great show in Tezpur University,” Dixit added, who also played at IIT Guwahati on two occasions.
