Hip-hop as an art form is rapidly gaining popularity amongst the youngsters of Northeast India. Now, an upcoming event called Movement of Xpression (MOX) Party aims to promote the growing hip-hop scenario here. The event will be held at Shillong on March 23-24 and at Guwahati on March 25.
Speaking to Northeast Now, Mrinal Paul, one of the organizers and a budding hip-hop artist from Shillong said, “It started off as a movement to promote the artistes on our roster but has now evolved into a festival promoting modern art, urban dance forms and modern street culture. The festival’s content is primarily youth oriented which they have enjoyed every time. No wonder the industry professionals have been saying ‘Hip Hop is going to be one of the most dominating genres in India in the next five years.’ The event’s aim has been to promote the independent hip hop and urban-street artistes of the region. Some of the finest hip hop acts in India have been a part of our previous three editions. Having national acts on board builds a very professional atmosphere wherein both the regional and national artistes exchange ideas and share knowledge. Apart from incorporating the various elements of hip hop like rap, breaking, beatbox and graffiti. We also do put emphasis on spoken word and slam poetry.”
Paul informed that in this edition, there will be workshops on slam poetry, spoken word, rhythm and poetry in colleges and institutes around Shillong. There will also be a group discussion where artists, artiste managers, promoters and industry professionals will converge to share their thoughts on how to build a brand and make it sustainable.
The Shillong chapter of the event will be held at Mellow Mood Cafe while the Guwahati chapter will be held at NYX Lounge & Deck, Hotel Palacio.
Some of the major attractions of the event are artists like Enkore, G’nie, Knack, SimPPle, Orko and groups like Foreign Flowz and Rainock Crew who are expected to enthrall the audience.
