Well-known fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee on Saturday pledged to donate an amount of Rs 1.5 crore to help the country in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
The fashion designer announced that he will donate Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore) of personal funds to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and Rs 5 million (Rs 50 lakhs)to the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s Relief Fund.

Mukherjee wrote on Instagram,”After securing my employees, I am pledging Rs 10 million of personal funds to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), and an additional Rs 5 million to the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s Relief Fund, with the expectation that the money is used to ramp up medical facilities in the country.”
He also said that he is not considering his donation as ‘charity’.
“Let me not mince words, I do not consider this as charity , nor do I seek any kind of praise. Everything we do today combats the massive challenge that we are facing as a nation and as a world. Our investments in today’s efforts will come back to us all exponentially in the future,” he added.

He also urged everyone to stay at home as a measure to control the spread of coronavirus.
“Stay home, be responsible, give what you can and understand that what we do today will safeguard our tomorrow,” he added.
