Guwahati: National Award-winning Assamese actor and producer Sulakhyana Baruah is set to make her Bollywood debut with acclaimed filmmaker Amit Rai’s upcoming Hindi feature film Ohh My Dog, which is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on August 7.
Directed by Amit Rai, whose previous film OMG 2 received critical acclaim, Ohh My Dog is an emotional family drama that explores the bond between a young child and a stray dog. The film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, Geeta Aggrawal Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Maahi Rai and Sulakhyana Baruah in key roles.
The film marks a significant milestone in Sulakhyana’s career, which has spanned acclaimed performances in Assamese cinema as well as award-winning work as a producer.
A graduate in Mass Media from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and an alumnus of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU), Prague, Sulakhyana began her acting journey with Adomya. She later earned recognition through films such as Maj Rati Keteki, Anunaad and Rador Pakhi, many of which were screened at national and international film festivals.
Maj Rati Keteki won the National Award for Best Assamese Feature Film, while Anunaad received the National Award for Best Film on Social Issues.
As a producer, Sulakhyana has also made a mark by backing content-driven regional cinema. Her productions Mishing and Sikaisil have both won National Awards, reflecting her commitment to promoting indigenous languages and cultures through filmmaking.
Speaking about her Bollywood debut, Sulakhyana said working with director Amit Rai and sharing screen space with actors such as Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra and Geeta Aggrawal Sharma was a rewarding experience. She said she hopes the film opens the door to more meaningful stories while allowing her to continue representing the rich storytelling traditions of Assam and the Northeast.
Apart from acting and production, Sulakhyana has represented Indian cinema at several international film festivals, including Cannes, and has served on preview committees for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). She has also been a jury member at various film festivals.
With Ohh My Dog, Sulakhyana becomes one of the latest talents from Assam to enter mainstream Hindi cinema, further highlighting the growing contribution of the Northeast to India’s film industry. The film is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on August 7, 2026.
