The third Judima Bishu Festival, festival of the Dimasas was celebrated at Dhansiri Sports Association (DSA) Stadium at Diphu in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Friday.

Dimasas residing in Dhansiri valley and from other places like Diphu, Manja and Mohongdijua took part in the festival.

The festival is a thanks-giving to Bishu or Bishnu for the good harvest.

Celebration and merry making marked the festival.

Women brought out Judima – rice brew from home in the open field for the men folk to drink accompanied by feasting.

Other tribes and communities like the Karbis, Adivasis, Nepalis, Garos and Khasis residing in Dhansiri and Doldoli area also participated.

Apart from Dimasa cultural dances and songs, the traditional dances of the Karibs, Adivasis, Nepalis, Garos and Khasis were also presented.

On the occasion Dhansiri member of Autonomous Council (MAC) and executive member (EM), Food & Civil Supplies and Transports, KAAC, Pradip Diphusa wished the Dimasa community in particular and people of Karbi Anglong a happy and joyous Judima Bishu festival.

“It the third year the people of Dhansiri has come together to celebrate Judima Bishu Festival to mark the plentiful harvest. It is also to give thanks to Lord Bishnu for the grace and blessings and to make merry by drinking Judima – home brewed rice alcohol. By celebrating the festival I pray that the almighty will continue to bless us with happiness. I also pray that let there be peace and prosperity in our land,” Diphusa said.

The celebration was attended by EM, KAAC, Ratan Teron and Member of Autonomous Council (MACs) Dorsing Ronghang and Pobitra Rongpi.
