Writer-actor-director Badal Das and film director-playwright Munin Barua were felicitated on Wednesday for their immense contribution to Assamese film industry on the occasion of 8th death anniversary of eminent film producer Sailadhar Baruah.

Several noted personalities of the film industry attended the event organized by Sailadhar Baruah Memorial Trust at District Library auditorium in Guwahati.

Munin Barua could not attend the programme due to illness.

Chief guest Nipon Goswami paid his tribute to late Sailadhar Baruah for his great contribution to Assamese cinema. It may be mentioned that late Sailadhar Baruah was the producer of many films by noted director Jahnu Baruah.

Speaking on the occasion, director Dara Ahmed said, “The need of the hour is to devote more time towards making good quality films. We need more cinema halls in remote areas and government action is required in this regard.”

The second edition of Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards saw the participation of twelve films in total. Of them, the jury members selected the best six for the awards.

The ‘Best Film’ award was bagged by Maj Rati Keteki produced and directed by Santwana Bordoloi while Narayan Seal received the award for ‘Best Director’ for his film Li : Len (Mising).

“I had a dream of creating good cinema, like each of the contenders. I also have gone through both the happiness and despair of creating art. I hereby accept this award and also share it with each of them,” Santwana Bordoloi said on receiving the award.

Further, Anurag Saikia received the ‘Best Music Director’ award for his contribution to Dikchow Banat Palaax and Maj Rati Keteki while sound designer Debojit Gayan received the ‘Best Technician’ award for Haanduk.

Mintu Baruah won the best male actor award for Dooronir Nirola Poja and Pranami Bora won the best female actor award for Sonar Baran Pakhi.

Director Jaicheng Jai Dohutia and child actor Mahendra Rabha won the Jury’s  Special Mention Award for Haanduk and Maj Rati Keteki respectively.

The jury members were Arup Manna, Runu Devi, Jatin Sarma, Ranjit Das and Munin Bayan.
