Students stage protest rally demanding sanctum sanctity of the Manipur University.

Imphal: Irate students broke the cordon of the security forces, stormed the gate of the Manipur University (MU), and staged a sit-in demanding the sanctum sanctity of the University on Monday.

The protest rally was organised by the Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) in collaboration with students of Manipur University.

The festoon of the rally reads, “Stop favouritism, nepotism, and conspiracy in recruitment, stop re-engagement of retired teachers, complete all the pending teaching and non-teaching recruitment processes, and respect the sanctity of teacher-student relationships.”

The security of the MU  and a team of the Manipur police locked the main gate of the MU and restricted entry or exit from the University but the protestors broke it.

However, numerous protesting students coming from different colleges thronged the gate and entered the campus of the varsity.

The students raised several slogans marched through the camp and tried to meet the Vice Chancellor of the varsity.

Talking to the newsmen on the sideline of the protest, a leader of the students’ protestors affirmed that the KSA will continue to bring out the alleged hanky-panky of the Manipur University.

He alleged that the MU authorities are violating certain rules and regulations in the appointments of teachers in different departments which were done at the disposal of some certain people.
