Aizawl: Boys have outperformed girls in the Class-10 board examination for the third time in a row.

According to the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination announced by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) on Tuesday, boys secured a 74.38 pass percentage against 72.48 per cent by the girls.

Last year boys pass percentage was 71.99 and that of girls was 70.40 per cent.

The class-10 board examination was held between February and March this year.

With a record of 91.2 pass per cent, deficit schools, which receive regular grants from the government, outperformed other schools in the Class-10 board examination.

Of the total 18,995 students enrolled, 18,561 students, including 9,907 girls, appeared in the class-10 board examination and 73.37 per cent (6,437 boys and 7,181 girls) of them successfully cleared the examination, over a two per cent increment over the previous year.

A total of 14 students, including eight girls, were in the top ten list.

 A boy candidate Lalmoipuia Lawmzual of St. Paul Higher Secondary School in Aizawl topped the merit list securing 485 marks out of 500 full marks.

Vanlalmuanpuii and H. Lalsangpuia, both also from St. Paul Higher Secondary School stood second and third rank respectively.

While Vanlalmuanpuii secured 480 marks, Lalsangpuia got 478 marks out of 500.

Of the total 18,561 candidates, who appeared in the examination, 4,837 students, including 2,667 girls, were declared failed.

1,332 students passed in distinction, 3,801 in the first division, 5,564 in the second division and 2,921 in the third division.

A total of 106 students, including 59 girls, got a chance for compartmental examination in a single subject.

While 85 schools secured a 100 pass percentage (all candidates passed), 18 schools registered zero pass percentage.
