Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan inaugurated SCIENTICS 2018, a two day science and mathematics fair at St Pauls Higher Secondary School in Aizawl on Monday.
In his inaugural address, Kummanam Rajasekharan said that the role played by science and technology in ‘our society is so important that everyone needs the application of science and mathematics in our day-to-day life’.
He said an exhibition provides a unique platform to the participating students and teachers for sharing their innovation and new experiences.
He emphasized on the need to utilize the power of education, the strength of science and technology in the right direction effectively to bring positive changes in the society.
He said the ‘future of our society lies in the hands of aspiring young people like the students, who can innovate, cooperate with others, stay resilient and would be able to rise up to the challenge’.
He urged them to deliver great outcomes for the society and the country.
Meanwhile, principal of the school Rev Bro Dr T J Jose said, “We are highly dependent today more than ever on technological advances and achievements especially as we deal with a host of issues like climate change, unemployment, economic issues, ever growing energy needs, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc which necessitates a deeper understanding of science and mathematics.”
He said SCIENTICS 2018 will instill an inquisitive mind and an accompanying urge to answer our questions while the students are still in their impressionable years of schooling.
He further said that it will then lead to new explorations, researches and discoveries, and innovations that will eventually stimulate the progress of the society.
After the inaugural function, the chief guest then went through the exhibits and had an interaction with the participating students.
