Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh has appealed to Union Human Resources Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar to review the fact finding committee instituted to probe charges leveled against Manipur University (MU) Vice Chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey.
Biren Singh who is camping in the national capital met Prakash Javadekar on Sunday and during the meeting, he impressed upon the Union HRD Minister for reviewing the composition of the inquiry committee to look into the affairs of varsity according to the wishes of the MU community.
The development came a day after agitators demanding removal of A P Pandey resolved not to cooperate with the committee constituted by the HRD Ministry.
The agitators demanded an independent inquiry committee headed by a retired chief justice of High Court and also did not want any official who are associated with Pandey in the financial and administrative mismanagement to be part of it.
The HRD Ministry had constituted a fact finding committee to probe charges against the Vice Chancellor on July 12 last with University Grants Commission (UGC) officer, J K Tripathi and HRD Ministry officer, Surat Singh as members.
The committee was supposed to submit its report within a month.
On the other hand, a public discourse comprising of political parties, CVOs and agitating bodies of the varsity unanimously demanded a judicial inquiry and urged the governments to immediately remove Pandey from the post of Vice Chancellor.
Meanwhile, the agitation led by the Manipur University Student’s Union (MUSU) demanding removal of A P Pandey has entered its 46th day.
