Breaking his silence on the poor performance of students in the recent CBSE examinations results of which were declared recently, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday said that the results were well anticipated as “no-detention policy had deteriorated the learning levels” of the students.
The State’s pass percentage in Class X results was 22.22 pc and that of Class XII was 44.33 pc.

“The Government has taken the right decision to do away with the no-detention policy for students as it was doomed to fail. Accordingly, to improve the education standard in the State, the fail system has re-introduced, as it will motivate the students to learn and perform better,” said Khandu while interacting with the members of Arunachal Pradesh Teachers Association (APTA), who called on the former at his office here.
On shortage of subject teachers, the Arunachal CM said recruitment would soon be conducted by the APPSC to fill up the vacant posts.
He also said rationalisation of teachers’ postings would be implemented for equitable distribution of teachers throughout the State.

Khandu further said textbooks are being made available with the schools in adequate numbers through direct procurement from NCERT.
“The education sector has been decentralised with a society under the chairmanship of a deputy commissioner to take care and meet all the requirements at the district level,” the CM informed.
To strengthen the capacity of the teachers, Khandu said he would have regular monitoring of the teachers’ training programme.
Earlier, the APTA requested the CM for immediate review of the byelaw of Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE)/Samagra Siksha Abhiyan and also discussed the other issues related to the welfare of teachers in the State.
Assuring to look into the demand, Khandu advised the teachers to be sincere and punctual in their assigned duties as they have important role in building the society by providing knowledge and wisdom.
The CM also sought valuable suggestions from the association to improve the educational standard in the State.
