Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers’ Association president, E D Nongsiang said that the agitation will begin by wearing black arm band on Monday and Tuesday, to be followed by a rally in Shillong on Wednesday.

“We have waited for the government to respond to our demand and take the matter to the Cabinet for approval but till now, nothing has been moved,” Nongsiang said.

On April 27, the teachers’ associations have met the State Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma and earlier on April 24 they met the State Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui and discussed the issue.

Nongsiang said that the Chief Minister has assured to take up the matter in the Cabinet within 10 days but till date, the government was delaying the process of implementing the pay revision.

The Chief Minister, however, told Northeast Now that there was some procedural delay and assured that the matter would be taken up after completing all the required procedures.
