The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong sees surge in summer placement stipend with an average of Rs 1.12 lakh being offered.
The jump of the stipend is 29 per cent more than last year and 180 students were in the fray for placement.
The top 20 per cent and top 50 per cent of the batch secured an average stipend of Rs 2.44 lakh and Rs 1.7 lakh respectively.
Every year, the students go for internship in different companies for two months during summer. “The internship is part of the IIM curriculum, so this stipend is for two months that has been offered to the different students,” an IIM official said.
Meanwhile, for this year placements 54 companies from different sectors such as Sales and Marketing, Strategy and Consulting, General Management, Finance, Operations and Human Resources were present.
Out of all these sectors Sales and Marketing continued to be the most sought-after domain this year, with 38 per cent of the total offers made to the participants.
Some of the major recruiting companies included Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, BPCL, Deloitte USI, Fidelity Investments, Google, HSBC Bank, ICICI Bank, TATA Motors, TATA Steel, Titan and others.
