A boy from Manipur is all set to become the youngest person to appear for the matriculation exam in the state.

Twelve-year-old Issac Paulallungmuan Vaiphei has been approved to appear for High School Certificate (HSLC) examination by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM).

Issac Paulallungmuan Vaiphei hails from Kangvai village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

As per reports, BOSEM had given approval to Issac to register his name with his actual date of birth for the upcoming board exams, terming it a ‘special case’.

As per the rules, a student shall have to complete 15 years of age on April 1 of the year in which a candidate intends to appear for the class 10 board finals.

Issac’s father Genkholian Vaiphei had submitted an application last year to the Education department seeking permission to allow his son to appear for the Class 10 board examination.

However, the commissioner of the Education department ordered to conduct a psychology test on the boy.

According to the psychology test reports, Issac’s Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was found to be 141 which is of very superior intellectual and development functioning.

The psychology test was conducted by clinical psychology department of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal.

Although they were initially asked to change the age of the boy to 15 so that he could appear in the examination, Genkholian later approached the higher authority to help his son to fulfill his ambitious aspirations.

Genkholian was happy that his son had been approved to appear in the matriculation exams and hopes that the initiative of the department will pave ways for the coming generations to put to test their skills and talents.

Issac, who idolizes the eminent scientist Sir Isac Newton, is quite happy to get an opportunity to appear for the matriculation exams at a young age.

“I am happy and excited. I admire Sir Isaac Newton because I think I am like him and we share a common name,” he said.
