Gauhati University (GU) has launched a new law course targeted towards the needs of the working professionals.

The course  is an attempt to impart day-to-day legal awareness to working professionals. It has been developed keeping in mind the various requirements of law in different occupations.

Classes are slated to start from February and classes will be held in the evening hours. The aim of the course is to impart legal knowledge to NGO workers, journalists, servicemen, ex-service men, student and researchers.

The principal of the University Law College issued a notification stating that the main objective of the diploma course is to impart the functional aspects of law associated with different administrative, social, personal and other human rights areas.

It also aims at ensuring legal capacity building and other areas relevant to lawmaking.

The course titled ‘Basics of Law’ will be of 12 months spread across two semesters. However, the students will have the option to withdraw from the course after successfully completing only one semester, with a certificate in ‘Basics to Law’.

The last date for submitting the application forms is January 30 and admissions will take place on of January 31. The intake capacity of the course is 30 with five seats reserved for University employees.  .
